CustomView360 Accessibility Updates
Posted by Matthew Pocock on 24 May 2011 12:14 PM

To assist those users who are using accessibility tools such as Dragon and JAWS screen reading software we have implemented some small enhancements to the CustomView360 application.

These are:

Radio Buttons:

Currently the question is repeated each time the user brings focus to the radio button and the rating value of the radio button is also echoed. To improve user friendliness the question is now preceded with the rating for the first radio button and thereafter follownig the rating:

For example:

User currently hears:

Provides the motivation and direction that ensures change initiatives are successful. Never.

Provides the motivation and direction that ensures change initiatives are successful. Seldom.

Provides the motivation and direction that ensures change initiatives are successful. Sometimes,.

Etc…

Improved usability:

Provides the motivation and direction that ensures change initiatives are successful. Never.

Seldom. Provides the motivation and direction that ensures change initiatives are successful.

Sometimes. Provides the motivation and direction that ensures change initiatives are successful.

Confirmation Screen:

We have also made a second change to the ‘confirmation page’ in CustomView360.   To assist in usability we have added the question range after the button label.

e.g. ‘Edit Responses’ now becomes ‘Edit Responses: 1-10’ for the first 10 questions in this case. Edit Responses 11-20 for the second set of questions etc.

Header Tags for Questions:

The other adjustment we have made (not that it’s visible to users) is that question text now use H5 HTML tags rather than normal body tags. This improves usability for screen reading software.
